What should I expect during teeth whitening?

Since the procedure is under the direct supervision of Dr. Mendez, she can use the strongest available whitening products for the best results.

Dr. Mendez applies a peroxide whitening product to your teeth. She shines a bright light onto the gel to activate it for about 15-30 minutes at a time. She then checks between each application to see how much the shade of your teeth has lifted. The whole procedure usually takes about an hour. Your teeth should become two to eight shades whiter after the appointment, and the team can help you book additional treatments at a later date if you need them. 

Am I a good candidate for teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is effective on off-white, yellow, and brown staining. These stains are extrinsic, meaning they’re on your tooth enamel. Gray teeth don’t respond well to whitening treatments because the staining is on an inner layer. If you have a gray tooth, the team at Skyview Dental may recommend a veneer instead.

Dr. Mendez reviews your oral health to determine whether or not you’re a good candidate for professional whitening treatments. You might be a good candidate if:

• The stains are on the surface

• Your gums are healthy
• You’re over 16

If you aren’t a candidate for teeth whitening, the team may encourage you to explore veneers or even crowns for heavy discoloration treatment instead.
